TASK 2: Data Collection

We must learn how to gather and manage data. While data can be valuable, some of the information is incorrect, rendering the data useless. The method used to collect data can mean the difference between useful insights and time-wasting misinformation. There are numerous tools available for collecting raw data.

Our Task
  •   Qian Tong — Google Arts & Culture on the 3 weapons
   ~ etc.
  •  Yi Yun — Suppression/rebellion of drag
    ~Video research
    ~etc.
  Netnography
  •  Jia Sheng & Tress — The history of homophobic persecution in the countries of the 3 weapons
  • Athirah — The significance of each weapon to their country
~Interview for person who practices drag in one of the countries of the 3 weapons
  •  Jodiann & Jia Sheng — Creating the questions
  •  Tress — Finding & requesting for interview
  • Jia Sheng — Going somewhere & taking actual pictures of keris or smtg
Working process
Getting information about weapons

I started to do the field study in Miro by using Google Arts and Culture.

After receiving feedback from Mr. Vinod, a few changes had to be made in the slide itself and he instructed to not remove the original submitted slides but to add the amended final versions.

Feedback

Week 4
Specific: Demonstrates an understanding of research methods, resourceful and has a wide scope, yet focused. Evidence of brainstorming or idea exploration is implicit via the presentation and it seems extensive. Effective written communication, clearly stating and justifying the selected theme, concept & approach of the research, supported by relevant citations. Presentation verbally was good with Jia Sheng's passion in delivery evident eventhough pronunciation was sometimes encumbered.

Week 5
Specific Feedback: Demonstrates excellent observational and research skills, evident in an abundant collection of various materials, using appropriate tools. Documentation of collected materials is written clearly with effective written communication skills, clearly reviewing the contents of the sources. I am happy to see the RQ-RO in the begining, well done there. It would also be good to mention in the conclusion how the data collected answered the RQ and fulfilled the RO and what will be the implications of the knowledge gained in yourr design output.

Reflection

To gather data, I conducted extensive research. During this journey, I learned more about traditional weapon design, culture and history. Because traditional weapons have been eliminated, they can only be used as ceremonial items, dance props or exhibits in this era. Most people don't know about traditional weapons because they are rarely mentioned. I want my search results to spark the interest of viewers. Then, visit a local or foreign museum to learn more about traditional weapons or go to Google Arts and Culture to see museums displaying spectacular traditional weapons.
