Task 1/ Proposal

Lecture
Week 1 / Introduction & Briefing
We were introduced to two of our lecturers which is Mohd Asrizal Razali, Noranis Ismail, Dr.Yip Jinchi and Mr Vinod. We were covered our module outline and expectations .We were informed that the Facebook group will be our main platform, where all course materials and important announcements can be found. Mr. Charles, a guest lecturer, then gave us our first lecture on netnography.

Netnography [Internet & ethnography]

~Netnography is a qualitative and exploratory research way of analysing social media consumer conversations. Researchers can gain a deep understanding through empathy and invisible online observation and listening. Analyzing highly engaged and creative consumers' articulated and implicit needs and solutions information can generate new insights.

Ethnography

~Ethnography is the study of people within a culture in their natural surroundings. Ethnographic research can be conducted on almost any team or organization. Contemporary ethnographic research has the added dimension of looking at people who live outside of the researcher's country of origin as well as those who live within that country.

Culture

~Culture is a social phenomenon that is shared by people who live in the same social environment. Culture is acquired rather than innate. It differs from personality, but the line between culture and personality is hazy. Although we cannot see it, when you interact with others, it is always visible to them.

TASK 1: PROPOSAL

  • Lim Jia Sheng (Jia Sheng)

  • Rusydina Fazlin Athirah (Athirah)
  • Jodiann Yeoh Chooi Kit (Jodiann)

Process

Our overarching theme is "Purpose." We are to chose a culture in society and offer suggestions to come up with a topic of interest. Then, conduct research on that culture and the specific area that we have identified. We finally decided to study drag culture after hours of deliberation. We finally decided to study drag culture .

We need to do are stating the purpose of what we are attempting to accomplish and create a minimum of 5 preliminary ideas and 5 detailed sketches. The ideas should be one of a kind and very different from one another. How the work load was distributed evenly. So each of us had to commit one idea.

After that, we had to came out 5 ideas and whip up a 200 word rationale .My earliest idea was to make poker card but it cannot do the other because they not able to be dragged except J,Q,K and A. paper doll to honour the contributions of drag performers.

So after discussion ,we chosen the idea which is Athirah and Yi Yun. They had combined their ideas together and we call it "tile -based collaborative." There are six main purposes of drag, which can be conveyed on six different canvases. Smaller canvases would be used to list the specifics of each main purpose.

Figure 1.3 Detailed sketch of 'Self- Expression '(18.1.2022)

First, drag's self-expression are make-up, clothing ,dance and quotes .Where is quote ? It is on the eyeshadow "Standout ",left and right side which is Drag and born .This quote is from Ru Paul he say 'stop trying to fit in when  you were born to standout.' The small lady on the right represents clothing  .In the center of the drag ' eye is represent dance and the thing surrounding is make up.

Following Mr Vinod's feedback during the consultation, it was straightforward that the idea was too surfaced and literal, and that we needed to think of something more in depth. We decided on Jia Sheng's idea of "Drag weapon skins" because it seemed to have more hidden end as well as a deeper message.

Hence, we developed the plan of dragging weapon skins. After struggling the titled ,we called this  idea as Drag Weapon Skins . For societies that discriminate against them, we see resistance as a defensive weapon (self-defense).The concept would be based on three traditional weapons in a country that currently penalises homosexuality, and would be designed to "drag" it by placing fabric, paint, jewellery, and so forth.

Feedback

Week 2
Mr. Vinod implied that we narrow it down and emphasise the "purpose" of each idea. He told us about his experiences watching drag shows in Malaysia and introduce the boom boom room. Lastly,  all of our ideas were excellent suggestions, and it would be difficult to choose between them. The approach was well articulated, and the approach was clearly explained, but the purpose was not clear, so more research is required. Consider combining Athirah's and Yi Yun's ideas.

Week 3
The idea felt too surfaced  and should have been more indirect, attempting to convey purpose through analogy and readjusting the mind to what is most important. It enables viewers to read and understand what they are seeing as well as the background information.

Reflection

I was able to come into contact with such an interesting drag culture through this team, which also provided me with a wealth of knowledge. I didn't know anything about this culture at first because I was unaware of its existence. Finally, completing this task necessitates a significant amount of research. We all faced many challenges in completing this proposal, as Mr. Vinod pointed out some key flaws in our concept that required more time and effort to fix. As a result, we must find a way to strengthen our mission.
