Design Principle
Introduction
Visual analysis is the study of certain design aspects and principles in
depth. Furthermore, visual analysis examines the decisions made by
designers. Humans understand that visual literacy is an important part of
visual literacy through media such as physics or social media. In the
outline form of visual analysis, it is divided into three stages that is
observation, analysis and interpretation. In this task, we are required to
learn to evaluate, investigate, record and analyze design materials that can
use any of the following forms: (billboards/television commercial/movie
clip/work of design)
This design is in a portrait format and all the colours that we can observe
include green, orange, blue, red, brown, grey and violet. From a further view,
we get to see the woman were grow in the soil and look different .We can tell
that this lady grows in the soil and looks distinct from other cabbages from
the bottom centre. We can see that this lady is growing in the soil and
surrounding by the vegetation from the bottom center. The designer uses the
cabbage around her to express. The lady putting all her attention on the
butterfly .She look like very care about the butterfly. Not only that,
the foreground had a lot of layers with perfect lines to
distinguish in this illustration. The middleground used repetition to
make the draw look endless. Lastly ,the background have the blue and pink
cloud like the evening sky , the line of the cloud look like the cloud are
moving and the butterflies flying freedom at the left of the draw .
Phase 2: Analysis
The strongest design principle shown in this work is emphasis
because the lady had getting a strong attention due to it different to the
other cabbage. This is typically the focal point or main subject of the
artwork. This work using placement to make sure that the area is
where viewers eye is attracted to first. Secondly, is harmony. The sense of cohesiveness between the elements in a good composition.
Color palettes likes the complementary colours and similar textures of the
sky and cabbage create a sense of unity between different components. On
top of that the designer using similarly shaped items will create
harmony they will seem related. The rhythm has been
shown through repetition of line on the soil and
movement also created at the cloud and the butterflies. The
golden ratio also had been used wisely. The work also used
repetition .As a tool, repetition in art helps to build not
only the visual part of the work but it often provides a deeper meaning to
the artwork, hiding a more philosophical and conceptual identity.

Phase 3: Interpretation
With further research on this beautiful design, I began to understand that
the root behind this particular design should be a reference to modern
popular character designs. The designer uses the cabbage around her to
show she is the sole cabbage lady who is carefully helping a who has just
transitioned from a pupa to butterfly. Thus the main focus is evident. The
designer also pays great attention to some basic design principles. She
pays great attention to the use of it in each of her works. This way she
will attract the attention of viewers more, such as golden ratio, emphasis
,movement ,rule of third are the most she always used .As a viewer ,this
designer draws her characters in this style, such as having single
eyelids, full lips and keeping her illustration style. This design reminds
me of Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s art because of the colour of the cabbages the
butterflies has form a hair and the cabbages ‘s leaf formed a clothing.
Visual Research
~I decided to explore about something like storybook drawing book style
we can through the draw to telling viewer the story. But why I choose
this concept due to the reason I had inspired by the visual analysis
which is the cabbage lady it look like a story that let me think if the
drawing telling a story it is the cabbage lady will come out from the
soil one day.

Jamsan 's art (03.11.21)
~Red fish which is on the left is one of my favorite Jamsan works. He
is a talented Korean illustrator. He is a cruel fairy
tale book. He refuses to be defined by a single genre, and boldly
explores the limits of his own imagination and style. He owns
popular artworks because they are between whimsical and weird,
flashy and gloomy, and make everyone find it
interesting. The characters he designs have their own characteristics and their
own style is like using many complicated lines to formed a beautiful
draw and for me his every works seem like link together even they are
different but it got the style to link that these are his draw. So
this time I want to choose the style of Jamsan 's art to show
gloomy draw and the drawing skill he had.

Johanna Goodman 's art (03.11.21)
~Secondly , to decided the height of the character I had used the
Johanna Goodman as my reference. The female figure of Johanna
Goodman (Johanna Goodman) is taller than the trees, towering on the
building, it seems to be far beyond the view. These collage works
combine elements of art, design, photography, and architecture, and
are part of Goodman's series of works called "Imaginary Existence
Catalog", which aims to explore the role of the individual in
history and popular culture. His work is very interesting. So, I
want to use this concept in my paintings, but I don't want to use
her collage because it might look messy or inappropriate maybe I
will used the concept of the proportion.

~ I want to using this as a reference to design a world of fairy tale .
My Ideas
Figure 2 Sketch (06.11.21)
~ Using Jamsan's concept in Figure 1.5, this is the style I took from him and added some of my own ideas, such as the hanging star, moon, and so on. It is unknown how much Johanna contributed to this work. The girl is clearly larger than the castle and the ferris wheel. I'd like to tell the story of a poor girl who lost a lover. I want viewers to guess this girl was dumped by her love partner, or her love partner had left, and she had lost her queen identity because her parents or her love partner treated her like a princess. Furthermore, the background is the fairy tale that she imagines. I chose the ferris wheel because I have always loved it since I was a child and it gives me the feeling that time has stopped. When I was on the ferris wheel with my parents, I had a lot of memories. We did a lot of conservation and enjoyed the scenery. So I made a ferris wheel that is deteriorating and being destroyed or eroded to represent her happy memories with someone that she love had gone. The castle represents her status as a princess in this fairy tale. I added some hanging moons, clouds, and stars to this project to keep with the fairy tale theme.
*I will add a crown on the floor in digitalize.

Final Outcomes
Figure 3 Final Outcome '"Losing" (21.11.21)
Rationale
~ The Losing is an artwork telling the storey of the losing identity of a queen by Lum Qian Tong. This work was inspired by Jamsan. The main purpose of this design is to show the visual expression of loss to the viewers. The face of the girl looks expressionless and speechless, conveying the message of hopelessness. The messy hair is to express that she is facing distraught. Besides, I drew a blue butterfly and a shooting star to represent that a good destiny will appear, so I hope she will get through this. The most interesting thing was that the designer had used the fairy tale concept to express the world that the girl imagined. She had a world full of happy memories with someone she loved who had gone. I had drawn an old crown on the floor because she had lost the identity of being the queen in her world. She had lost her lover who always treated her like a princess so the castle became dilapidated. The ferris wheel where she always spent time with her lover had stopped the activation of the ferris wheel. The old castle and ferris wheel seem to be swollen by the dark fog and create a terrifying atmosphere. Lastly, the texture and line also increase the atmosphere and emotion. Hence, I hope people can go through their own sadness.

Design Principle
~ Emphasis : Because
the girl had getting a strong attention due to she is the focal
point. This work makes use of positioning to ensure that the viewer's eye
is focused to the spot initially.
~Balance : It
has used asymmetrical balance ,the visual weight harmonizes with the other
elements and composition gives an appearance of properly distributed elements.
~ Golden
ratio : It also had been used to make sure the focal point is in
the middle of the spiral.
~Proportion : It was
displayed to draw attention to specific locations.
~ Lines : The floor ,the
character ,cloud and so on had imply volumes and suggest motion or
emotion.
~Texture : It
had helped the draw look even more fascinating and increase
the scene atmosphere setting of the draw. The designer had used rough
texture and adjust the low opacity and made a texture similar. It seems like it
had the connection to the cloud and look even more realistic.
~Color : It show
to fit the topic the designer had chosen darken color to show the visual
expression clearly.

Feedback
Week 11 : Just stay and see what your friends do.
Week 12 : Correct my order and told to add the foreground and background figure 1 's observation. Explain the sketch.
Week 13 : Try to bring force to show the visual expression.
Week 14 : Interesting .This reflect a lot of figure 1.5 which is the lines .The layers definitely help with making it more completed. The texture is good, can see the reference "red fish". Not just to view it does come together very well. Good.
Reflection
Compared to other projects, I like this project the most because I can find the style of my artwork through the styles of various artists, and I can also learn many things from it. I had strengthen my observations on art and try to guess what the artist thinking and decisions . The Jamsan 's art really inspired me a lot ,I 'll used one of the concept from him to be my future art style that is the texture (line) .
