Lecture
Week 5 / Introduction & Briefing
Mr. Vinod began class in week 5 with a brief description of our final
submission for the previous task (task 1 exercises 1 & 2), which was due
on this day. Then he showed us the video demonstration that we would need to
finish Task 2, which need to submit on week 8. While he was reviewing and
marking all of our individual e-portfolios, we were all assigned to watch the
task 2 video to gain a better knowledge of what we needed to accomplish and to
get the work started.
Recorded Lecture
Mr. Vinod demonstrated how we can use our idea of using the title in creative
ways with a sketch in the video presented to us.
Week 6
We started off this week's class with an interactive question and answer
session. Then, we went over our expectations for the following week in
further depth. The section below contains all of the detailed requirements
and standards. Then we'll go to the consultation meeting, where we'll all
give feedback and opinions on how our peers are doing on Task 2.

Task 2/Typographic Exploration and Communication
In this project, we must express the content of the link provided in a
2-page editorial spread typographically. We are not able to use any
images or colors. We will use Adobe InDesign to typographically compose
and convey the text in the size of 200 × 200 per page, applying the
understanding obtained in the previous exercises. To make the headline
expression, we use Adobe Illustrator. We can only use the given 10 typefaces. In this task, we were given a
set of texts to choose from which were posted on the Facebook page under the
Typography group.
Figure 1 The Test I had selected [Visual Communicators, Unite!
Manifesto 2000]
~ The
reason I chose the third editorial "Visual Communicators, Unite! Manifesto
2000" is because I want to challenge myself. Because I know my level, there
are two best choices. One is Bauhaus and the second is Visual Communicator.
There are some challenges I chose this option.
Visual Research
Figure 2 Text layout exploration & inspiration research (25.09.21)
Figure 2.5 Visual Research (25.09.21)
~ I
want to use figure 2 as a reference of text layout and the figure 2.5
are one I decided to create a symbol like the eye giving the communicate.
Besides, I had an idea I want to use the words Visual Communicator do like
a voice to communication this is due to I want to express Visual
Communication to the viewer in the form of a chat with my eyes.
Sketch
Figure 3 Rough Sketch (26.09.21)
~ The idea of text layout has been decided, but in order to have a
good connection I need to modify some to make the layout more balance.
Digital Layout
Figure 4 Layout of Headline (30.09.21)
Figure 4 .5 Idea (30.09.21)
~ My idea is to put "I" inside the "V" and make it look like a side eye
(Figure 4.5) to represent vision. In addition, I also used the same way to
express visual communication in the "o" of communication. Finally, I
adjusted the size of "Unite!" bigger, because it will lets everyone know
that this is a different tone or an important information and I had place a
chatting frame to mean the communication
Step 2 Kerning & Tracking & Alignment
Step 3 Adding Graphical Elements Design
Attempt #1
Figure 5 Layout #1 (30.09.21)
Figure 5.2 Visual Research of Layout #1 (30.09.21)
~ I create a arrow to show the viewer direction to read and there have two
arrow were pointing the "Unite" remind people unite. Figure 5.2 uses a
drawing design to make the power of visualization more obvious. It allows
the designer to discover and express progressions.

Line length: 40-48 characters
Attempt #2
Figure 5.5 Layout # 2 (02.10.21)
~ The first attempt was too many graphic elements. I think I need to improve
some more relevant and not too complicated graphics. In addition, I reversed
"Unite" and changed the color so that readers would not read it as Visual
Unite. I also changed some on the right to make it more in line with the
content.

Decision : Layout#2
Figure 6 Different Color of Layout # 2 (07.10.21)
~ I played with different colors to see the result. Moreover, careless me
I did not notice a serious problem that is the imbalance between the
leading of the left body text is and the right. I adjust Lead-in
text’s leading 14pt, the left body text leading changing 14pt to 12pt and
the right body text maintain11pt. After improving the problem, I decided
to choose gray because black and white produce too much contrast. I cannot
notice the body text and only the graphic elements. After improving the

contrast. I cannot notice the body text and only the graphic

Feedback
Week 6
General Feedback(29.09.21): The unite on the right and the others are not connected. Try to explore more.
Specific Feedback(29.09.21): Mr. Vinod asked me to do digital to see the outcome because it is lack of ideas for the title.
General Feedback(30.09.21): My friends comment the layout #1 to graphic and think that still did not had connecting with the points. Maybe try to research again and understanding the topic. Besides, my friend said she misread Visual Communicator as Visual Unity because the direction and color are similar.
Week 7
General Feedback: The post is incomplete. But figure 5 does showcase promise in idea expression and an unconventional but original layout sense. However the body text on the left page has a different leading compared to the one on the right. Is it because you are treating it like an ontroductory text? I don't know, but this does effect cross-alignment to a degree for the page on the right. Complete your work, label it and submit it, until them no marks awarded.
Reflection
Experience: I have experienced how to learn from my mistakes bit by bit, even though I would still be careless. At Week 6, I very much agreed with Mr. Vinod’s words "Online can look at everybody work and listen each others feedback." Besides, after an interactive question and answer session, I have the courage to ask you questions that you don’t know and solve them smoothly. my question.
Observation: I observed that my progress was in task1 exercise 2 I was facing a lot of fundamental problem before the process of designing the layout. Then, I also learned a lesson, so I am very careful and careful in this Task2, hoping to reduce errors.
Finding :I think I should pay more attention to the design methods and arrangements of articles in newspapers, magazines, leaflets and etc. I need to keep exploring the method that how to integrate all the words, content and graphics with each other and maintain the connection.

Thinking With Type is a book that should be in the collection of every designer, writer, editor, publisher and typographer. Its content is about graphic designers using a huge library of existing fonts, selecting and combining them according to a specific audience or situation. To do this with tact and wisdom, one needs to understand how and why the font has evolved. The history of typography reflects the continuous tension between hand and machine, organic and geometric, human body and abstract system.
