Design Principle
Week 1 / Introduction & Briefing
Because of the National Day we did not have class, so we go to Microsoft
Teams to do the exercise 1 .Before week 3 coming , Dr. Jinchi asked us via telegram to provide her
our exercises 1 and 2 at week 2 into her teams. Dr. Jinchi
thoroughly analysed and proposed to each student patiently in class,
ensuring that everyone understood and progressed. We also learn mistakes
and how to improve better methods through everyone’s works.
Instruction
Exercise 2
- Choose TWO principles from Emphasis/ Balance / Repetition / Movement.
- Produce 1 design for each chosen principle.
Chosen Principles : Emphasis and Balance
~ I choose emphasis because I like the way to get the viewer’s
attention in the shortest time and they will immediately remember
the focal point on the picture.
~I choose Balance to be the first one I am willing to move, and
balance is a little bit obsessive-compulsive. Second, he can express
visual interpretation of gravity.
1. Emphasis #1

~As we can see the left is I done before which is first attempt of emphasis . Dr. Jinchi's suggestion me to
fill up those white spaces, do not leave it blanks. So this is the
outcome.
2. Balance #1

~I use simple shape
and align them. Dr. Jinchi's suggestion me to explore more because it to
common.
Idea & Exploration

~ He is the one who had inspired me to create my own
design. He is the person who accompanied my childhood. His cheerful
personality brings me happiness. When I became sleepy, and leaning
against the back of my chair, I had an idea after I saw this book on
the bookcase. He was the one who was with me during my childhood. His
cheerful personality brings me happiness. I believe I can create a
character and then using him to create a series of designs with
principle of designs.

~I called him Mr. Man because I created him and wore a neat suit,
I hope he can be a gentleman. I design his face with anger and
expressionless face. Moreover, the interesting thing is that every
funny action he makes with this expression must be very
interesting.
3. Emphasis #2

~ I use the idea of Dr. Jinchi’s suggestion that advice to us to
make their emphasis stronger which are use the color and size . But in
this image I add a different position on it to prevent the emphasis
low contrast and can not grab the viewer's attention. To get the
attention I used the red color to catch viewer's eyes. After emphasis
1.0, I think Mr. Man did not have a strong eye contact ,so I turned up
the size of his right eye.

~ After Dr. Jinchi’s suggestion I turn the hat, ribbon and eyes of Mr .Man
into solid so that it became even more stronger emphasis than
before.
4. Balance #2

~ Balance in my mind is connect to tightwire. We can see figure 2.2 have asymmetrical balance in it.
Therefore, I try thinking how to show balance with another way the
idea of the circus came out . If we delete balance "ANCE" and add a
" L" it turn into ball . But I want to use symmetrical balance in my
work. So ,this is the outcome.
~ I adjust to let the top area to have some space and thicken the
outline of the ball because it look unobvious before and now it
look more better.

Feedback
Dr. Jinchi given some advices to improve my work 1.0 that is adding the
star and explore more balance .
It to many things is going give some space surrounding it, clear out a bit.
Then hat can be solic (Emphasis)
Give some space it's a bit too cramp. (Balance)
Reflection
I was delighted that I had successfully created my own design. It's fun because I enjoy the process of creating this character. I'm having a fun time with Mr. Man, the character that I'm using for this exercise. Lastly, I hope everyone will like the series of Mr. Man that I had created.
